It takes a lot of time and planning to prepare for an extended camping trip, you really cant just pickup your tent and go. You will want to make sure you have all the necessary equipment for your trip to ensure you and your family and friends have a great time. Plus, the more often you go camping the easier the planning will be since it will almost be second nature knowing what you will and wont need the next time.
First thing you will want to do is sit down and make a list of the things you can think of that you will want to bring. Do this anytime and then come back to it later and add to it as you remember things.
If this is one of your first trips or at least the first time you have been in charge of planning the trip, then you will need a few pointers for your preparation.
First tip is to get all your gear and lay it out somewhere where you can easily see everything. This should be done at least a week or 2 before hand if this is your first time planning Incase you are missing important items and may not be able to acquire them right away.
Using appropriate storage for your vehicle to maximize space, things like basket shelves and duffel bags for your clothes rather than a suit case.
Placing the big and heavy stuff on the bottom and making sure they are secure before placing the lighter and or fragile equipment on top. It would be good to put the stuff you need ASAP in last so it is easily accessible when you arrive to your camping spot.
Remember to pack items to prepare for any incidents. A first aid kit is a must and so is a little first aid knowledge. Also, for extended camping trips in the wilderness, extra items like anti-biotics and also being knowledgeable of snake and spider bites.
Other items for extended camping trips would be a CB radio for emergencies and knowing the location of the nearest medical station.
Some of this may sound like over-preparation but when the time comes you don’t want to be left in a panic. Things like snake bites are time oriented injuries and you do not want to waste time thinking about what to do while someone is in pain.
When it comes to food, it is up to you as far as the menu. But, make sure you bring more than enough for everyone and you are prepared with coolers and some form of refrigeration for any perishable foods. Be sure everyone knows what’s on the menu and you all agree, remember some people are allergic to foods so be sure of all that information.
Most of all have fun! Try not to worry about the little things as long as you have what you need. Enjoy the outdoors just remember to respect it and you will be ok. Good luck!
